| The challenge: | To convert an aging two-story structure into an animal shelter | Stray Rescue of St. Louis does exactly what its name says: it rescues stray animals in need of medical attention, restores them to health, and places them in loving adoptive homes. To do that, it needs a shelter where abused and neglected animals can receive the medical care and attention they need.
ISC is serving as general contractor on a multi-phase project that is designed to create this place. Preliminary site work is already completed, including demolishing the donated building's original entrance, tuckpointing the exterior, adding a new roof, and pouring a new concrete ramp and steps, among other tasks. Construction is now underway on a Veterinarian Clinic with a surgery center and kennels for dogs in need of medical treatment. Stray Rescue's administrative offices are also being moved to the 15,627 square-foot building's second floor as part of this phase.
The second phase of the project will add dog apartments, cleaning & grooming areas, a prep kitchen and public restrooms to the facility. The third and final project will focus on the exterior, with the addition of a dog exercise yard, fencing and other exterior finishes.
